Japanese festival: 3/3 Hina Matsuri り Doll's Festival

Posted by EBISU小編 on

Hina Matsuri り (Hi Na Ma Tsu Ri)

This is a festival in Japan used to pray for little girls to grow up healthy. Originally it was the third day of the third month of the lunar calendar, but it was changed to the third day of the third month of the Western calendar after the Meiji Restoration. Hina dolls (Hina's Day dolls) will be displayed on this day, which are the dolls that we often see in Japanese anime (the main character's home in Love Changing Dolls), and many dolls placed on shelves that can be seen in Japanese dramas.

The placement of the dolls is very particular. Generally, dolls are divided into seven classes, which are:

  • Tier 1 : Emperor, Empress
  • Tier 2 : Palace Maid
  • Tier 3 : Band
  • Tier 4 : Followers
  • Tier 5 : Servant
  • Tier 6 : Dowry Furniture
  • Level 7 : Bullock Cart, Potted Plant, Box

Generally, 15 human-shaped dolls, a seven-step table, and other accessories are required, which are expensive. Therefore, a table with fewer orders is also selected. Such as: 5th order, 3rd order or 1st order. The Japanese regard odd numbers as lucky numbers.

Since humanoid dolls can be passed down from generation to generation, when marrying a daughter, take the humanoid doll and newly purchased furniture as a dowry for the daughter to take away. A set of ordinary humanoid dolls is about 150,000 to 500,000 yen , and the more expensive ones are as high as 1 million yen or more. Therefore, in recent years, many people have bought the first-stage platform with only the emperor and the queen. The more advanced ones will buy a pair of human figures of the prince and the inner prince, or even a set of small figures in a glass box. The price is affordable. Also easy to set up.

The display time of the hina doll cannot exceed March 3rd. If it exceeds the date of the daughter's wedding, it will be difficult for the daughter to marry.

Hina Matsuri り originated from the Shangsi Festival in China. On this day, everyone will use the river water to cleanse their bodies and make paper or straw figures, symbolizing that their illnesses are transferred to the dummy, and then the dummy will be floated down in the river. In the Heian period (794-1185), hina dolls were originally a game among the nobles, not a ceremony. It was not until the Edo period (1603-1700) that it evolved into the form we are familiar with today.

On the day of Hina Matsuri, people will eat rice cakes, sakura, drink white wine, and in some places they will drink clam soup because two pieces of clams are tightly bound together, and different clams must not be able to close together, so it is used to symbolize women. Dedicated to love
